Proverbs 19:21 Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand. (ESV)

“When you align yourself with God's purpose as described in the Scriptures, something special happens to your life.” Bono

I started writing with many ideas of what I wanted to write. Last year I completed my novel, A Blessing for Oriana, inspired by the book of Ruth. I asked a few people to read it and they questioned my Christian perspective.

I realized that although I had created a story I enjoyed, I wasn’t sure it aligned with God’s purpose for my writing.

Many Plans

We tend to have many plans for our lives: getting a certain job, buying a house, saving for retirement, having a certain number of children, etc. These plans don’t always pan out because they don’t always align with God’s plan for us. We may not get the job we want because He may need us to do something else. We might not get to buy the house of our dreams or take the vacation we want. He may give us more kids than we think we want or not give us any. I know people who have gone through both circumstances.

Consider

Consider the time and energy you put into your plans and your dreams that never work out. The time and energy are wasted if your plan doesn’t fit God’s plan. On the other hand, as Bono mentioned in the quote above, when we are fulfilling God’s purpose for us, something special happens. The pieces fall into place perfectly.

Seek

Why waste time and energy on plans that may fail? Seek the Lord and His purpose for your life. Let’s work on it together this year!
