Purpose: My Work and God’s Work

Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.

Sometimes all we can do is keep going. Daily life is the “same old, same old,” and we want something to change but we don’t see God leading us to change. It’s this time in life when we need to continue to “work out our salvation.”

If we have accepted Christ and received salvation, we are called to be obedient to the Lord and to follow His instructions and His leadership in our lives. Wherever we are, whatever we do, we can follow Christ to the best of our abilities. We can honor God through our words and actions and tell others the Good News of the Gospel. We can share our testimony, learn, and grow in faith as we continue with our daily grind.

Fear and Trembling

The “fear and trembling” refers to our attitude, which should be respectful to a God of infinite knowledge and power. God can change things for us at any minute if He decides He wants to, so the calling He compels us to accomplish should be first and foremost in our minds and in our actions.

Good News

The good news is we are not alone and we are not unprepared. Whatever the circumstance, the Lord is working in us to make sure that we have the tools and abilities to accomplish His will. For me, it’s very encouraging that the Lord is doing the work in me; that means I don’t need to try to make myself better. He is doing the work and He’s doing it according to His pleasure. It may not be exactly what I imagine for my life, but what matters is that the Lord is pleased with His work in me.

"The climb might be tough and challenging, but the view is worth it. There is a purpose for that pain; you just can't always see it right away." -Victoria Arlen

Are you Working?

Are you working out your salvation? Are you working with respect toward an all-powerful God? Are you allowing God to do the work in you according to His pleasure?
