Pursue What Makes for Peace

Updated: Apr 14

Part of my pursuit this year is to honor God and part of that involves building relationships. I memorized this verse:

Therefore, let us pursue the things which make for peace, the things by which one may edify another. ~Romans 14:19

It’s easy to be influenced by the difficult and negative things happening in the workplace and in the world, but we can choose to focus on love, peace, and thankfulness instead.

But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection. And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful. ~ Colossians 3:14-15

Love. Paul calls love the “bond of perfection.” Love forms a bond. People who love each other want to be connected, and that love forms a connection between them. When you love someone with the love of Christ, you accept them regardless of their imperfections. You see them as “perfect.”

Peace. Not only are we to have peace, but we are instructed to let it rule in our hearts. In other words, we need to live a life of peace. If we love each other and forgive each other, we can live in peace with each other. The more we open our hearts to live in peace, the more we allow peace to rule.

Thankfulness. “Be thankful” is a command. God doesn’t say you could be thankful, or you should be thankful. He says, “Be thankful.” Love others and let peace rule in your hearts. Do that and be thankful for the love and peace that you have.

Do you love others? Do you allow peace to rule in your heart? Are you thankful?

“In the pursuit of wholeness, there will surely be challenges but you need to keep going.” ~ Sunday Adelaja, The Mountain of Ignorance
